Here we see the same weapon as before with a higher upgrade level, higher strength, and the heavy affinity. Standard = no affinity applied, same base damage and scaling as the weapon had before doing anything to it.īlood = adds arcane scaling as well as the bleeding build-up feature to the weapon, but reduces base damage and other scalings. Quality = balanced str/dex scaling, usually with higher top-end potential than the previous two, but this requires raising both strength and dexterity. Heavy = increases strength scaling, good for pure strength builds. Keen = increases dexterity scaling, good for pure dex builds. Unique weapons are stuck with whatever scaling and weapon art they come with. You can only apply affinities to non-unique weapons, meaning things that aren't boss drops and other similarly unusual ones. Here are the basic ones, which are unlocked throughout the game by finding whetblades. If a weapon has D or E, it won't really get enough from stats to be a good choice in a build that raises that stat to a high level, but can work fine in a hybrid build that only invests as much as is required to equip the weapon.Īffinities, which are chosen when applying Ashes of War, can change a weapon's scaling.
For a stat-stacking build, you want at least B or A once it's highly upgraded. Generally speaking, C and higher is good. C is pretty decent for an un-upgraded weapon with no affinity applied to it, and indicates that it will soon go up to B, and might end up at A, or perhaps even S with the right affinity and the highest upgrade level. Scaling increases as you upgrade a weapon, so a weapon might start with D but go up to C or B when upgraded enough.įor instance, see this image. If a weapon has A in strength scaling, it gets more damage out of strength than a weapon that has C in strength scaling.
It goes S A B C D E, with S being the best. Scaling is how much your stats contribute to the weapon's damage.
